A fire broke out in a church near Elysian Park Sunday, authorities said.
The fire was reported at 8:45 a.m. in one room of a church at 150 N. Avenue 18 near Barranca Street, fire spokeswoman Melissa Kelley said.
The blaze was controlled by a sprinkler system and was extinguished at 9:05 a.m., Kelley said.
No one was injured, according to Kelley.
Firefighters at the scene said they were handling water damage at the scene as parishioners, unaware of the fire, may have been hampering their efforts.
The building is part of the Young-Nak Presbyterian Church and was closed to services, but the main building remained open.
Firefighters had not yet determined the cause of the fire and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
