Prosecutors Monday charged the estranged husband of a fatal stabbing victim and another man with her July murder inside a Century City parking garage.
Jose Luis Moya, 47, worked for James Fayed as a ranch manager and prosecutors say he allegedly drove the getaway car. He was arrested Thursday and officially charged Monday.
James Fayed was arrested on federal charges related to his gold trading business and has been denied bail.
Los Angeles police with the Robbery-Homicide Division, who have been
handling the case, identified Fayed husband as the prime suspect earlier.
Pamela Fayed, 44, was stabbed in the neck and face July 28. The couple were fighting over assets.
The red sport utility vehicle was rented with a credit card belonging to James Fayed, who was arrested Aug. 1, prosecutors said.
Fayed's attorney has called the prosecution's allegations unsubstantiated and uncorroborated.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Aveis in court proceedings last month said
Fayed had told his wife he could kill her and "my hands would be clean."
Prosecutors allege Fayed may have killed his wife so she would not testify against him in a criminal case related to his business, an operation the prosecutor described as Ponzi schemes in which individuals invested up to $20 million.
The couple jointly owned Camarillo-based Goldfinger Coin and Bullion Sales and an associated Internet firm, E-Bullion.
A month before she was killed, Pamela Fayed reportedly offered to help federal prosecutors in the criminal probe into the business.
The couple was engaged in divorce proceedings at the time of the killing, and prosecutors noted in court documents that James Fayed was expected to be ordered to pay about $1 million in spousal support and attorney fees on July 29 -- the day after his wife was killed.
The couple had two children, an 18-year-old daughter from Pamela's first marriage, and a 9-year-old daughter.
