A 20-year-old woman who may have been drinking was killed Wednesday when she lost control of her SUV and it overturned on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in Los Angeles.
The vehicle was traveling westbound on the 10 just west of South Alameda Street when the crash occurred. No other vehicles were involved. The crash occurred just after 2 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Gonzalez said.
The SUV appeared to have struck the center divider, causing the vehicle to roll over and come to rest in the middle of the No. 2 lane, a CHP officer
reported.
The woman driving, who had allegedly been drinking, was pronounced dead at the scene, the officer added. Her identity was not immediately released.
The passenger, also a woman, was hospitalized with minor injuries, the officer said.
The four right lanes of the freeway were shut down until until around 4:30 a.m.
