Prosecutors: Flirty Juror No Reason For New Trial

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Prosecutors say convicted fashion designer Anand Jon Alexander should not be granted a new trial even though a juror flirted over the phone with the defendant's sister.

A hearing is expected to resume Monday on the request for Alexander, who was convicted of 16 sex-related charges involving seven young women and teenage girls. Alexander's attorneys are seeking a new trial because they believe one of the jurors, Alvin Dymally, reached out to Alexander's sister during the trial.

Deputy District Attorney Frances Young released a transcript of the phone call Thursday. The prosecutor says the conversation was not about the defendant's guilt or innocence but was merely flirtatious banter.

Sanjana Alexander came forward with the tape following her brother's conviction Nov. 13.
