Police conducting a spot check for prohibited items inside the home of a person on probation brought in the Los Angeles County bomb squad when they spotted an explosive device, they said.
A residence in the 300 block of Cummings Lane was being searched at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday when officers found a "small, improvised explosive device," said Long Beach police Sgt. David Marander.
Police called the Sheriff's Arson/Explosives Detail to the scene to deal with the explosive, said Marander.
Details about the device, and how it was neutralized, were not disclosed, but two persons were arrested.
