Explosion Sparks South Gate Commercial Fire
SOUTH GATE, Calif. (CBS) ―
An explosion inside a motorcycle repair shop sparked a stubborn non-injury fire in South Gate Friday, authorities said.
The second-alarm fire at the three-unit commercial building at 4976 E. Firestone Blvd. was reported just after 3 a.m.
At 4:35 a.m. firefighters declared a knockdown Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Mike Brown said.
When firefighters arrived, they found the interior of the one-story 50-by-50 foot structure ablaze, Brown said.
"There was an explosion prior to our arrival inside that unit," he said, adding that the cause of the blast was under investigation.
Brown said a nearby muffler business and auto repair shop sustained mostly smoke damage.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, Brown added.
