Fire Damages South LA Elementary School

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― A fire damaged La Salle Avenue Elementary School in South Los Angeles on Friday, but no one was hurt, authorities said.

Firefighters sent to the 8700 block of S. La Salle Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. extinguished the flames in the second-floor room in about 10 minutes, said Ron Myers of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Water from the school's sprinkler system helped keep the flames from spreading, he said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
