Man Shot Dead in East Los Angeles

EAST LOS ANGELES A man was fatally shot outside his girlfriend's residence in East Los Angeles, authorities said today.

The shooting in the 800 block of North Herbert Avenue near Folsom Street
was reported around 10:55 p.m. Thursday, said Deputy Denise Fuchs of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

According to investigators, the victim was inside his girlfriend's residence when a man arrived and called out his name, sheriff's Deputy Art Spencer said.

The victim told his girlfriend he knew the man and subsequently walked
outside to meet him, Spencer said.

Moments later, five gunshots rang out, prompting the girlfriend to go
outside, where she saw the victim on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body, Spencer said.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, died at the scene, Spencer said.

"The suspect is described as a male Hispanic adult," he said.

The motive for the attack was under investigation.
