Santa Monica Ferris Wheel Up For Auction On eBay

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) ― Want to be a big wheel? Here's the auction for you.

A Ferris wheel that has operated on the Santa Monica Pier for the past 12 years is up for grabs on eBay.

The nine-story-tall wheel has provided 3 million rides since it was installed in 1996 but it's going to be dismantled and replaced by a newer model.

A 10-day auction of the wheel began Tuesday but there were no bids by Tuesday afternoon.

The minimum price is $50,000 and half the winning bid -- minus fees -- will be donated to the Special Olympics.

The buyer must handle shipping costs for the 122,000-pound wheel.
