A toddler drowned after falling into his family's backyard pool in Glen Avon, authorities said Wednesday.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department said the death of 22-month-old Rafael Cortez Jr. appeared to be accidental.
Deputies were called to the Cortez home in the 4000 block of Glen Street around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.
When they arrived, they found a neighbor performing CPR on the child.
Paramedics arrived moments later and transported the youngster to Riverside Community Hospital, but efforts to revive him failed.
He was pronounced dead at 7:46 p.m., according to the coroner's office.
It wasn't immediately clear how long the child was in the pool before being discovered.
