Police arrested a 55-year-old man after the Los Angeles City Animal Cruelty Task Force found scarred pit bulls and equipment related to dog-fighting at a property in the Hyde Park section of Los Angeles, authorities said.
Jerome Woods of Los Angeles was arrested Wednesday in the 6600 block of 4th Avenue near West 65th Place, an ACTF statement said.
Task force members served a search warrant at the location and seized 11 Staffordshire Bull Terriers that bore scars possibly caused by dog fighting, according to the ACTF.
The evidence found by the task force included exercise equipment, medicine, bloody towels and bloodstained fighting pits, the statement said.
The case will be presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office for review and felony filing. If convicted, Woods could face a state prison sentence.
The ACTF, which investigates cruelty against animals, consists of Los Angeles Police Department officers and detectives, Department of Animal Services officers and Los Angeles deputy city attorneys.
