A man and two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were injured Thursday night when their squad car collided with a van in South Los Angeles, a sheriff's sergeant said.
The deputies were responding to a call about 8:15 p.m. when the patrol car collided with a minivan that was making a turn at Central Avenue and 84th Street, said Sgt. Chris Kusayanagi of the sheriff's Century Station.
The man was hospitalized in serious condition while the two deputies were said to be in stable condition, reported.
The collision sent the minivan careening into the stairwell of an apartment complex and the squad car struck another vehicle.
"It was kind of surreal because I saw them meeting, but I was just expecting one of the vehicles to stop," resident Keisha Tinson said. "But they didn't stop."
"When the van was turning, it turned right into our stairway and our apartment building," Tinson added. "And the sheriff's vehicle, when it turned, it hit one of the tenant's vehicles."
