Santa Monica Man's Death Now Called 'Suspicious'

Police Are Investigating The Cicrumstances Of The Man's Death

SANTA MONICA Police are investigating the "suspicious death" of a man whose body was found inside a Santa Monica apartment; the second apparent homicide in the normally tranquil city since the weekend.

The discovery was made at 520 Montana Ave. around 8:05 p.m. Thursday, Santa Monica police Sgt. Mario Toti said. The victim, a man in his 30s, was found inside his apartment, he said.

Santa Monica police were expected to release more information about the discovery later on Thursday, Toti added.

Police, meanwhile, continued to investigate the death of Juliana Maureen Redding, 21, an aspiring model and actress from Arizona whose body was discovered in her Santa Monica apartment in the 1500 block of Centinela Avenue around 6 p.m. Sunday.

"At this point, we have not made any arrest, and are still waiting for the coroner's inquest to determine the time and cause of death," Santa Monica police Lt. Alex Padilla said.

Police said Redding's death was being treated as a homicide because it appeared the victim died as a result of an assault.

"This is an ongoing investigation, and we are interviewing family, friends and neighbors to garnish as much information as possible," Padilla
said.

Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner's office said that Redding's autopsy was completed, but Santa Monica police put a "security hold" on the results. Winter said it would probably be 30 to 60 days before the results would be made public.

Anyone with information on either cases was asked to call detectives at (310) 458-8451.
