High Speed Crash Kills Motorist In Compton

COMPTON, Calif. (CBS) ― A motorist who was allegedly speeding Thursday on a Compton street crashed into another vehicle and was killed, the Sheriff's Department reported.

The crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. at Compton Boulevard and Sloan Avenue, said sheriff's Lt. Rein Schuerger of the Compton Station.

According to Schuerger, the motorist was speeding down Compton Boulevard and passed sheriff's detectives, who radioed the information to a dispatcher.

The vehicle crashed a short time later,  Schuerger said.

The detectives were not in pursuit, Schuerger said.

An unrelated "30- second pursuit" occurred about the same time in a different part of the city, Schuerger said.

The man driving the other vehicle was slightly injured, Schuerger said.
