Woman's Body Found In Car At Tow Yard
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―
Authorities Monday released the name of a woman whose body was found in a car at a Canoga Park tow yard a day after the vehicle was taken there following a traffic crash in Tarzana.
She was identified as Shirley Lee Williams, 72, of Paso Robles in San Luis Obispo County, Capt. Ed Winter of the coroner's office said. An autopsy was pending.
The body was discovered at a tow yard Sunday, a day after the vehicle was brought there following a crash in the 19200 block of Ventura Boulevard, police said.
"There was an accident Saturday and the car was impounded, and later it turned out there was another victim in the vehicle," Sgt. Paul Modrell of the LAPD's West Valley Station said.
"Obviously, that is something they're trying to figure out -- how this could happen," Modrell said.
The woman's body was concealed beneath an air bag that had deployed during the accident, the LAPD reported.
The initial traffic accident happened about 10 a.m. Saturday when a car driven by the woman's son struck a parked car in a parking lot and crashed into a building, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The car was then towed some seven miles to Howard Sommers Towing Inc. at 7891 Deering Ave. in Canoga Park.
