One person was killed and another was injured Saturday in a two-car collision that shut down the southbound lanes of a freeway near Highland Park, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The two-car collision occurred on the Avenue 64 onramp of the southbound Pasadena (110) Freeway about 5:20 p.m., said CHP Officer Jose Nunez.
One of the cars rolled over, trapping one person inside, said Los Angeles city fire spokesman David Ortiz. Firefighters extricated the victim, who was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Ortiz said.
Another person in the vehicle, who was not trapped, was also transported to a local hospital in moderate condition, Ortiz said.
It was not immediately known which of the victims died.
The other driver had left by the time firefighters arrived, Ortiz said, adding that driver's vehicle was still at the scene of the accident.
The CHP issued a SigAlert for the southbound lanes of the freeway, Nunez said.
