A 25-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to murder in the stabbing death of an east Hollywood theater director who was once his lover.
Jose Fructuoso, a Mexican citizen is being held on $1 million bail in connection with the death of Bennett Bradley.
Fructuoso was arrested Monday after Bradley was found dead with multiple stab wounds.
In court Thursday morning, Fructuoso pleaded not guilty to Bradley's murder. He is to return to court Jan. 21 for a preliminary hearing.
Capt. Matt Blake, commanding officer of the Olympic area police station, said Bradley -- a director/producer at Fountain Theatre in East Hollywood -- was likely killed around 5 p.m. Friday.
Detectives reportedly found evidence, which they would not disclose, that led them to Fructuoso's residence.
He and the director lived about a block apart, said officials.
Blake said, "Evidence has been found that has linked him to the murder, and(he) confessed to the crime."
Police did not provide a motive for the slaying.
Blake said a bloody knife was found in Bradley's apartment, and the weapon was being analyzed.
