Woman Injured In Laguna Woods Condominium Fire

LAGUNA WOODS An 82-year-old woman who was trapped in her burning Laguna Woods condominium until she was pulled out by firefighters suffered critical smoke-inhalation injuries Wednesday, while her daughter managed to escape the home with moderate injuries.

The Orange County Fire Authority was called to the single-story condo at
3455 Bahia Blanca West around 9:30 a.m., said OCFA Capt. Greg McKeown.

The woman's 52-year-old daughter was outside the two-bedroom, 1,200-
square-foot end unit, he said.

Firefighters, using thermal-imaging equipment, found the 82-year-old
woman inside the home and got her out just before the fire flashed in the
condo, chasing all firefighters out of the structure, McKeown said.

The women were taken to Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, he said.

The fire was controlled shortly before 10 a.m. One firefighter suffered a wrist burn and also went to the hospital, McKeown said.

The unit was gutted, and the one next to it had smoke damage and a hole
in the roof created by firefighters checking to see that no fire was in the
attic, McKeown said.
