Clippers Lose Out On Azubuike, Stays With Warriors

OAKLAND, CA (AP) ― The Los Angeles Clippers made a run at stealing another star away from the Golden State Warriors, but Kelenna Azubuike will remain with Golden State after the club matched the Clippers' three-year, 9 million-dollar contract offer.

Azubuike, a restricted free agent, had signed an offer sheet from the Clippers on July 17.  Had the Warriors not matched the Clippers offer within one week, they would have lost him.  The Clippers had already signed unrestricted free agent Baron Davis away from Golden State.

The shooting guard averaged 8.1 points and four rebounds in 81 games last season for the Warriors. Golden State signed the former Kentucky player out of the NBA Developmental League in January 2007.
