Vice President Dick Cheney will travel to Southern California Wednesday, visiting troops at the Camp Pendleton Marine base and attending a political fundraiser in San Clemente.
Cheney is expected to arrive at the base at 2:40 p.m. and tour the facilities, according to the White House.
At 5:30 p.m., he will speak at a reception for Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Corona, at a home in San Clemente.
Calvert, a seven-term congressman, is running for re-election in November.
He represents the 44th District, which includes parts of Riverside County and the southern portion of Orange County.
During Cheney's visit, a group of Democrats plan to protest outside the gates of Casa Pacifica, once owned by former President Richard M. Nixon and used as the Western White House during his presidency.
Democratic activists believe the fundraiser is being held there, although Cheney's office declined to identify the venue.
