Sunland Winds Knock Down Power Lines, Car Burns

SUNLAND, Calif. (CBS) ― A falling tree brought down power lines in Sunland, causing a parked car to catch fire, authorities said Thursday.

The car fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Fenwick Street, Lt. Ingrid Braun of the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Station said.

The Ford Thunderbird was fully engulfed before Los Angeles firefighters extinguished the flames.

"There were no reports of injuries," Braun said, adding that the city Department of Transportation closed the road and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power shut down the power going to the felled lines.

Residences and businesses nearby would most likely be affected by the downed lines, Sgt. Anthony Azevedo of the LAPD's Foothill Division reported, adding that there was no estimate on when power would be restored. The number of customers affected was not immediately determined.
