Police Hunt For Other Suspect In Stolen Car Chase

SAN JACINTO One man was arrested and another was sought in connection with guns and ammunition found in a stolen vehicle and on the Soboba Indian Reservation, a sheriff's lieutenant said Friday.

Sheriff's deputies served a search warrant on the reservation about 10 a.m. Thursday in the 42000 block of Castile Canyon Road.

The search warrant was issued after sheriff's deputies pursued a car around 3 a.m. Sept. 7 that had been reported stolen.

The chase went from Lamb Canyon Road to Castile Canyon Road on the reservation, where deputies lost sight of the car and called a helicopter crew to find it, sheriff's Lt. Patricia Knudson said.

Deputies searching the small sedan found ammunition for a .22-caliber weapon, a magazine for a .22-caliber rifle and an empty gun holster, Knudson said.

They also found paperwork linked to a man called Whitecloud Trujillo, who has been staying at the reservation since his return from Indio a few months ago, the lieutenant said.

Armed with a search warrant, deputies went to the Castile Canyon Road home, where Trujillo had been staying with a woman, said Knudson.

They briefly detained the woman and seized two rifles and an illegally altered shotgun, Knudson said.

Deputies then arrested Matt Castro, 22, in the 900 block of Nantucket Street, in San Jacinto, Knudson said.

She said they had information from other sources about Castro's whereabouts and his alleged involvement with the stolen vehicle.

Authorities believe Castro was a passenger in the stolen car, and that Trujillo was the driver when deputies chased it.

Castro is on probation for a 2007 robbery conviction.

Knudson said she expects Trujillo will surface soon.

"I believe he knows he's wanted," Knudson said. "I believe he has family on the reservation."

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Cpl. Will Edwards at (951) 791-3448.
