Police Investigating Burned Body As A Murder

Fire fighters found a burned body in the driver's seat of a burning car. Police are treating it as a homicide.

A body was found Tuesday inside a burning car in an alley in the Vermont Knolls area of Los Angeles, triggering a homicide investigation, authorities said today.
The fire was reported at 10:01 p.m. Tuesday in an alley in the 900 block of West 73rd Street near South Vermont Avenue, according to a sergeant at the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Street Station said.
"It was reported as a vehicle fire," the sergeant said. "When firefighters extinguished the flames a burnt body was discovered inside."
The body was found in the driver's seat, according to witnesses at the scene. The victim's gender was not immediately clear, the sergeant said, adding that the death was being investigated as a homicide.
