A boy, who nearly-drowned Sunday, was pulled from a pool in Porter Ranch and was revived when bystanders performed CPR, a city fire department official said.
A 911 call reporting the near-drowning at a community pool in the 19300 block of Crystal Springs Circle was received at 2:20 p.m., Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said. The 11-year-old boy, who was wearing a life vest to swim, was found floating face down and not breathing after brief inattention by those watching him, Humphrey said.
Witnesses pulled him from the pool and performed CPR, which revived him, Humphrey said. When paramedics arrived on scene, they found the boy in his father's arms and breathing, Humphrey said.
The boy was airlifted by helicopter to Children's Hospital Los Angeles in serious condition, Humphrey said.
Humphrey credited bystanders for a quick rescue and for performing CPR, but warned of how quickly a drowning can occur.
"It does not take a lack of attention, but merely a lapse inattention for a tragedy to occur," Humphrey said.
