It's not the way a Texas family planned to start their new lives in Southern California.
Just hours after she arrived here, Jamie Santana had packed her life away into a U-Haul truck.
On Monday, someone stole her rented truck with everything she owned inside along with her Ford mustang.
"I cried. I felt devastated," said Santana.
The truck and car were taken right in front of her mother's apartment in Bell Gardens.
"When you see a U-Haul, you know someone is moving something going somewhere, starting over," Santana said. "I told my kids to take one week's worth of clothes on the airplane to get down here cause I was going to drive and bring everything else and I had nothing."
Authorities are investigating whether a security camera attached to a house across the street may have captured the crime in progress.
Santana said this is comparable to losing everything in a fire.
"Everything is gone and I didn't have insurance on the U-Haul. Because I could barely afford the gas to get down here," Santana said.
