Police Catch Bank Robbers Moments After Heist
GARDEN GROVE
Two suspected bank robbers, caught with cash stuffed under the dashboard of sport utility vehicle moments after a holdup in Garden Grove, were behind bars Saturday.
Travon Johnson, 23, of Long Beach and Jason Coppage, 25, of Carson were arrested on suspicion of robbing a Union Bank branch at 11900 Brookhurst St. about 1:20 p.m. Friday, the Orange County Register reported.
Johnson and Coppage also are believed to be responsible for several other bank robberies in Los Angeles and Orange counties, according to law enforcement authorities.
Moments after the holdup, a Garden Grove officer noticed a gray SUV that matched the description of the one used in the robbery, Lt. Bill Eriksen told the Register.
The vehicle was pulled over on the Garden Grove (22) Freeway near Beach Boulevard, and the stolen cash was discovered hidden in the dashboard.
