Alligator Found Crawling On Venice Street

VENICE, Calif. (CBS) ― Police Wednesday discovered a three-foot alligator in the front yard of a Venice home, authorities said.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Station responded to a report of an alligator seen crawling into the bushes at a home in the 200 block of 4th Avenue near Rose Avenue about 1:20 a.m., an LAPD sergeant said.

An officer at the scene told reporters at the scene that some neighbors returning to their home spotted the alligator and immediately called police.

Arriving officers quickly located the reptile and corralled it into a trash can, holding it until Animal Control personnel arrived, the sergeant said.

It is unclear how the alligator got to the location, he said.
