Alaska Airlines Flight From LAX Evacuated

LOS ANGELES A pilot and three passengers received medical treatment on Thursday after an Alaska Airlines flight from Los Angeles made an emergency landing in Seattle because of smoke in the cockpit, a Federal Aviation Administration official said.

The pilot of the Boeing 737 reported smoke in the cockpit as the flight landed at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Passengers were evacuated from the plane at 9:17 a.m. via emergency chutes, said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.

The co-pilot suffered smoke inhalation. Two passengers had sprained ankles and one passenger suffered a neck injury as a result of the evacuation, Gregor said.

Alaska Airlines 529 departed LAX at 6:11 a.m. with 103 passengers and five crew members on board.

The FAA and Alaska Airlines will investigate the cause of the smoke.
