Firefighters Extinguish 3-Acre Blaze Near Acton

ACTON, Calif. (CBS) ― A brush fire threatened houses in a rural area of upper Soledad Canyon, near Acton, Saturday but no injuries or serious damage were reported, a fire official said.

The three-acre fire near Soledad Canyon Road and Arrastre Canyon Road was reported at 1:44 p.m., said Supervisor Jackson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The blaze was burning up to houses in the rural area about two miles south of Acton, and 15 miles east of Santa Clarita.

County firefighters were assisted by a Los Angeles city fire helicopter, which made water drops. The two-alarm fire was knocked down at 2:32 p.m., Jackson said.

There was an evacuation order for properties downwind, but the number of homes evacuated was unknown, said Officer Anthony Martin of the California Highway Patrol. There were no injuries, and no known damage to structures, Jackson said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
