The California Highway Patrol says 16 people have died in traffic collisions since Christmas Eve.
That's two fewer California highway deaths than during a similar period last year.
The figures are current from 6 p.m. Christmas Eve through 10 a.m. Saturday.
Of the 13 people killed within the CHP's jurisdiction, eight were not wearing seat belts. The remaining three deaths were investigated by city police departments.
There were far fewer drunken driving arrests so far this holiday.
The CHP says 824 drivers were arrested for DUI this year, down from 1,303 arrests during a similar period last year.
