Authorities say a car hit and killed a man who was trying to run across Interstate 5 just north of downtown Los Angeles, shutting down all but one lane and snarling traffic on the northbound side of the busy freeway.
The California Highway Patrol says the accident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, with most northbound lanes near the Los Angeles River closed until about 6:30 a.m. as rush hour approached.
CHP Officer David Porter says the man, estimated to be in his 20s, was declared dead at the scene.
His name was not immediately released.
