A woman struck by a Los Angeles subway train has died.
Fire Department and transit officials say the 40-year-old woman was struck by a Metro Purple Line train at about 9:40 a.m. Saturday in the Westlake station, about three miles west of downtown. Witnesses say it appeared she intentionally jumped.
Fire spokesman Cecil Manresa says the woman was in full cardiac arrest when she was found on the station's electrified third rail.
The electricity was shut off so the woman could be rescued, given CPR and hospitalized. She later died.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the accident caused 10-minute delays for other trains on the route but operations were back to normal by 2:30 p.m.
The woman has not been identified.
