Judge Delays Hollywood Wiretapping Trial
LOS ANGELES (AP) ―
A federal judge is saying she will postpone the wiretapping trial of Hollywood private eye Anthony Pellicano and several other co-defendants to Aug. 22 of next year.
U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer had originally scheduled the trial for February, but the case against Pellicano and six other defendants has been delayed by a lengthy discovery process.
Fischer said she would issue a written order granting the delay. Pellicano has pleaded not guilty to racketeering and wiretapping charges.
Prosecutors claim in a 112-count indictment that Pellicano illegally wiretapped the phones of Hollywood stars such as Sylvester Stallone.
They also allege that he bribed police officers to run the names of more than 60 people, including comedians Garry Shandling and Kevin Nealon, through government databases.
