Santa Ana Winds Howl Across SoCal

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Strong Santa Ana winds are blowing across many parts of Southern California, bringing a heightened risk of wildfire. So far, no damage is reported.

The National Weather Service says gusts were reported up to 67 mph in the Malibu Hills, with numerous other locations reporting significant gusts in the 30 mph-to-57 mph range.

The northeast winds are being spawned by high pressure over the Great Basin, which sends air flowing from the interior of the West and through Southern California, where it squeezes through canyons and passes as it rushes out to sea.

The winds are expected to last through Sunday afternoon.
