Winds Knock Power Lines Onto LAPD Cruiser

LOS ANGELES Strong winds knocked down power lines in the Mount Olympus area, trapping an LAPD officer inside her vehicle for about 10 minutes, authorities said.

The officer was patrolling Mulholland Drive just east of Laurel Canyon Boulevard when the accident occurred around 11 p.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Pat Butler of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Station.

Butler said he believed that the car was moving when the power lines fell on it.

The Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters blocked off a large portion of Mulholland Drive until the electricity was shut down, he said.

The officer stayed in the cruiser for about 10 minutes until firefighters removed the wires off the car, Butler said, adding that she was not harmed.
