Wildfire Erupts Near Oil Facility In Santa Paula

SANTA PAULA, Calif. (AP) ― Ventura County firefighters are nearing containment on a 30-acre wildfire near a Santa Paula oil facility.

Fire Capt. Ron Oatman said water-dropping helicopters helped ground crews get the blaze 75 percent surrounded by 10 a.m. and full containment was expected within hours.

There were no injuries and no structures were damaged.

The fire was reported just before 4 a.m. Monday and arriving firefighters found about 10 acres ablaze in a remote, brushy area off Old Mountain Road, about 70 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Nearby avocado growers were contacted by fire officials and asked to turn on sprinklers to protect crops from the heat and smoke.
