210, 118 Freeways Reopen Amid Wildfires

LONDON (AP) ― Two major Southern California freeways have been opened in time for the morning commute after being closed for hours because of the region's raging wildfires.

Officer Patrick Kimball of the California Highway Patrol says the 210 Foothill Freeway and the 118 Ronald Reagan Freeway in the San Fernando Valley are both open in both directions Tuesday morning. Several offramps of the Foothill Freeway remain closed near Interstate 5.

Both freeways are experiencing extreme Santa Ana winds.

The Foothill Freeway was closed at about 6 a.m. Monday morning and one of two wildfires in the valley leapt over the freeway soon after.

The 118 was the scene of a fiery wreck later Tuesday morning when a tow truck rear-ended a car and killed the driver on a roadway obscured by smoke.
