Yes, it was hot Sunday. Unseasonably, rudely, annoyingly, grossly warm. Make that hot. In fact, according to the National Weather Service, five different areas marked record high temperatures for this time of year, namely UCLA, Long Beach, the Santa Monica Pier, Camarillo and LAX.
If you were at LAX, about the best thing you could do is hop on a place to someplace not so warm. Which, looking at the map, is just about anyplace that's not Southern California.
The unusually hot and steamy weather returned to Southern California for a second day in a row.
The National Weather Service promised higher-than-normal temperatures Sunday and they more than delivered on the promise. Relief in sight? Maybe not. A high-pressure ridge remains settled over the West Coast.
Temperatures spiked at 95 degrees in Los Angeles. Highs in the beach areas, normally cooler because of a breeze off the ocean and clouds, were still in the steamy high 80s and low 90s.
Saturday a high of 91 at LAX eclipsed the previous record of 90 degrees, set on the same date in 1947.
Weather service spokesman Bill Hoffer says the high-pressure system is moving quickly and is expected to dissipate in the coming days, with temperatures returning to more seasonal norms by Wednesday.
Wednesday? Who can wait that long??
