The Los Angeles mayor is criticizing the city's firefighter union for a mailer linking the deadly Metrolink train crash to budget cuts at the Fire Department.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa sent an e-mail announcement on Friday calling the mailer "offensive, tasteless and misleading."
The United Firefighters of Los Angeles City Local 112 recently sent the mailer to voters promoting its fight against budget cuts. It notes that 250 firefighters responded to the disaster last September that killed 25 people in Chatsworth. The mailer includes photos of the collision and says budget cuts will mean fewer firefighters, trucks and ambulances to respond to emergencies.
Pat McOsker, president of Local 112, defends the mailer as accurate and honest.
