Suspected Wife Killer, Gang Member Still At Large

Sheriffs are still looking for Carlos Reyes, a 29-year-old Wilmington gang member, who they say shot and killed his estranged wife Wednesday morning as she arrived to work in Carson.

Carlos Reyes, a San Pedro resident, is suspected of the killing of his
30-year old wife, Veronica Reyes, said Deputy Aura Sierra of the Sheriff's
Headquarters Bureau.

The Burbank woman died at the scene of the shooting in the 900 block of
East 233rd Street around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Carlos Reyes' black 2008 BMW was found blocks from the murder scene, said police.

When the victim pulled into a parking space at her workplace, Coastline
Logistics, the suspect parked next to her in his car. Armed with a handgun, he reportedly got out of his sedan and opened fire as she sat in the driver's seat, Sgt. Diane Hecht said.

"The incident was part of a hostile and ongoing separation and child
custody hearing," sheriff's Lt. Dave Coleman told the Daily Breeze.

The victim was the mother of four children, ages 8 to 12, according to
newspaper.

The suspect, an alleged leader of the Eastside Wilmas gang, is known by the nicknames Wino and Straws. He was listed as a defendant in an injunction filed in 2004 against members of his gang, according to the Breeze.

His past also includes an arrest on suspicion of attempted murder on
Sept. 11, 2001, after he shot at two fellow gang members, the Daily Breeze reported. He was not prosecuted for the shooting.

Most recently, Torrance police arrested Reyes on Aug. 31 on suspicion of
disturbing the peace and driving on a suspended license.

Reyes is Latino, about 5 feet 8 inches, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing dark shorts, the sheriff's department said.

Police urged anyone with information on Reyes' whereabouts to call
homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500.
