Ventura County sheriff's officials have called off a suspect search after determining shots reported at a juvenile courthouse were really noise from a nail gun.
Sgt. David Murray says lockdowns at the Superior Court Juvenile Courthouse, Juvenile Justice Center and nearby Rio Mesa High School have all been lifted after deputies and a helicopter scoured the area north of Oxnard.
The sheriff's office initially received reports of four shots fired from outside the courthouse just after 9 a.m. Monday, with one of them striking a window.
Murray says it turns out faulty safety glass in a secure area of the courthouse self-imploded, and witnesses overheard a nail gun discharged at a nearby commercial area soon after.
