Los Angeles police today were investigating a fatal crash in which a speeding motorist crashed his car into a tree in Van Nuys.
The traffic accident on Chandler Boulevard, east of Hazeltine Avenue occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, said Los Angeles police officer Dan Henry of the Valley Traffic Division.
Henry said a blue four-door Audi was going east on Chandler Boulevard before it struck a light pole and then a tree. The motorist, the lone occupant inside the vehicle, died at the scene.
The motorist was later identified as Scott Michael Weiss, a 32-year-old resident of Sherman Oaks, said Coroner's Investigator Betsy Magdaleno.
It was unclear what led Weiss to lose control of his car, Henry said.
