Stranded OC Family Gets Rescued

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) ― A family of four has been airlifted to safety after getting stuck 400 feet up an Orange County cliff.

Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Greg McKeown says the two adults and two children had been hiking up a steep hill in Silverado Canyon, about 15 miles east of Santa Ana.

About 400 feet up, they realized they could not go up or back down, so called for help on a cell phone.

Fire officials sent two fire engines, an urban search-and-rescue truck, a patrol truck and a helicopter to the area.

The helicopter hoisted the family to safety just before it got too dark to fly.

No one was injured, and the family was released.
