Authorities Friday identified the two women who were fatally stabbed in Tujunga and the man suspected of killing them before jumping to his death from a bridge.
Walter Garcia, 37, was the man who committed suicide, said Lt. Joe Bale of the coroner's office, adding that 35-year-old Damaris Quiles and her mother Carmen Quiles, 73 -- both of Tujunga -- were killed in the violence.
The stabbings occurred around 8:45 a.m. Thursday in the 6800 block of
Quinton Lane, Officer April Harding of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations office said.
Officers who went to the scene in response to a report of domestic
violence learned that Garcia and his former wife, Damaris Quiles, had argued outside the home and her mother, Carmen, came outside and "intervened," Harding said.
The man then stabbed both women and drove off, Harding said. The mother died at the scene and her daughter died at a hospital, she said.
A short time later, the man committed suicide by jumping from the bridge
in Pasadena, Harding said.
The 6-year-old son of the estranged couple was at his elementary school
when the violence occurred and was later taken into protective custody, Harding said.
