Truck Driver Arrested After Leading Cops On Chase

CAR CHASES: Archive Of Wild Police Pursuits

LOS ANGELES Police officers subdued a truck driver early Sunday following a chase that started in Calabasas and ended in Cerritos, authorities said.

A motorist reported that a possible drunken driver in a Vons delivery truck was on the Ventura (101) Freeway, sheriff's Sgt. Dan Raimo of the Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff's Station said.

Deputies caught up to the eastbound truck near Tampa Avenue in Tarzana and attempted to pull the driver over, Raimo said. But the truck driver refused to yield.

California Highway Patrol officers took over the pursuit as the truck left the San Fernando Valley on the Hollywood (101) Freeway, he said.

After more than 40 miles of pursuit down the 101 and Santa Ana (5) freeways, the big truck was driven into the large Vons distribution center in Cerritos at about 12:15 a.m.

Video shot by freelance journalists showed the driver apparently resisting arrest, and being struck by Highway Patrol officers inside a fenced yard.

The Vons truck had not been reported stolen, Raimo said.
