Fewer Holiday Traffic Deaths Reported In L.A.
LOS ANGELES
Fewer people died on California roads and fewer motorists were charged with DUI during the holiday weekend, according to the California Highway Patrol who reported statistics Monday.
Three people died in traffic collisions over the New Year's holiday in Los Angeles County, compared with eight traffic deaths during the same period a year earlier, according to the CHP.
Statewide, 30 people were killed in traffic crashes from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, compared with 37 traffic fatalities during the same period a year earlier, said the CHP.
CHP officers in Los Angeles County made 290 driving-under-the-influence arrests during that period, compared with 333 such arrests a year earlier. Statewide, CHP officers nabbed 1,456 DUI suspects, compared with 1,759 DUI arrests a year earlier.
