'Tiger Team' To Patrol Sunset Boulevard
LOS ANGELES
Los Angeles will roll out its fourth "Tiger Team" -- a group of traffic control officers -- on Tuesday to patrol Sunset Boulevard for illegally parked cars and use new technology to scan license plates for stolen vehicles.
Five traffic control officers and seven tow truck drivers will target illegally parked cars on Sunset Boulevard between Vermont Avenue and Laurel Canyon Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Using license plate recognition cameras, officers will scan license plates for stolen vehicles and identify cars sought in Amber Alerts.
In January, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced the new Tiger Team as part of his short-term initiatives to reduce traffic congestion in the city of Los Angeles.
The first Tiger Team started patrolling Wilshire Boulevard in June 2006. Officers also patrol stretches of Ventura and Crenshaw boulevards.
The mayor and Los Angeles City Council members Eric Garcetti, Tom LaBonge and Wendy Greuel will announce the Tiger Team at a morning news conference in Hollywood.
