'Tiger Team' To Ticket, Tow Illegally Parked Cars
LOS ANGELES
The city's fifth "Tiger Team" Tuesday began patrolling 25 congested areas of Los Angeles, with traffic officers ticketing and towing illegally parked cars that worsen rush hour traffic.
Thirteen traffic officers will patrol 25 areas, including Pico Boulevard, Westwood Boulevard, Victory Boulevard, De Soto Avenue, Figueroa Boulevard, Hoover Street, La Brea Avenue, Broadway Street and Hill Street.
"In an effort to avenge law-abiding motorists and to serve justice to those who create needless traffic congestion, a special unit of L.A.'s traffic control officers will be deployed at 25 traffic 'hotspots' throughout the city, every place from the San Fernando Valley to San Pedro," Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said.
Peak-hour citations, which are given between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., will cost drivers $70. That fine will increase to $140 is the car is parked in an "Anti-Gridlock Zone."
License plate recognition cameras will also allow officers to scan plates for stolen vehicles and identify cars sought in Amber Alerts.
