Dodgers Will Honor 60s-Era Players This Week

LOS ANGELES The Boys of Summer will stop this week to honor the Boys Of Summers past when the Los Angeles Dodgers bring back many players from the 1960s during a six-game homestand beginning Monday.

The star-studded events will include a lunch open to the public Saturday.

On Monday, Hall of Fame pitcher Don Sutton and 1965 National League Rookie-of-the-Year Jim Lefebvre (who now manages China's Olympic baseball team) will take part in ceremonies before Monday's game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Sutton, the franchise's winningest pitcher, will be honored for his work with his educational program, "Stay In The Game," which encourages people affected by kidney cancer to seek support and information about the disease. Sutton, himself, has been diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer.

On Saturday, the Dodgers will hold a fan lunch where Dodger faithful will be able to get autographs and have pictures taken on the field with such 1960s players as Tommy Davis, Ron Fairly, Steve Garvey (yes, he started in the 60s, we looked it up!), Lou Johnson, Wes Parker and Maury Wills.

Tickets are $75 for adults and $50 for children. Tickets for the lunch will go on sale Monday at Dodger Stadium.

Those aforementioned players will also be honored on the field during pregame ceremonies Saturday.

Garvey will autograph copies of his book, "My Bat Boy Days," for fans on the club level before the game.

The 1960s players will join current Dodger players and coaches for On-Field Photo Day before Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Dodgers won three National League pennants during the 1960s and
World Series championships in 1963 and 1965.

The Dodgers plan to honor a different decade each month during the season in connection with the 50th anniversary of their move to Los Angeles.
