Temperatures Expected To Drop This Week

LOS ANGELES Monday is expected to be cooler than the weekend's record-setting temperatures, and the rest of the week should be even cooler, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather is expected to be sunny, though afternoon highs are expected to be stay in the 70s along the coast and mid 80s inland.

Highs should drop into the 60s, with overnight lows in the 50s, during the rest of the week.

On Sunday, five high temperature records were set in Los Angeles County -- four in the same areas that also set records Saturday. Four records were set in Orange County.

Los Angeles International Airport, Long Beach, UCLA in Westwood and Camarillo all set record highs in the 90s.

A fifth record was set on Sunday was at the Santa Monica Pier, which heated up to 86 degrees -- breaking the record of 78 degrees set in 1993.

The highest recorded weekend temperature was set in Anaheim in Orange County, which reached 102 degrees, beating the record of 96 set in 1984. Anaheim also set a record Saturday, when the high of 96 degrees beat the record of 89 degrees set in 1994.

Yorba Linda, John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana and Fullerton also reached record high temperatures.

On Saturday, Newport Beach set a record of 81 degrees, one degree higher than the record of 80 set in 1957.
